Trump Faces Backlash After Airstrikes on Iran Nuclear Sites
President Donald Trump is under growing pressure after ordering airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, a dramatic move that marks a defining moment in his second term.
In a televised national address, Trump hailed the strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan as a “spectacular military success,” asserting that the mission was designed to cripple Iran’s nuclear program and neutralize a global threat.
Global Reactions Swift and Divided
The international response has been rapid and sharply divided. Iran’s Foreign Minister denounced the attack as “outrageous,” warning of severe repercussions and affirming Tehran’s right to retaliate in self-defense.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the strike as a “historic achievement,” other world leaders voiced concern. UN Secretary-General António Guterres cautioned against escalation, China condemned the assault outright, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the urgent need for stability in the region.
Domestic Fallout: Support Shaken
Domestically, Trump retains a solid base of support, but dissent is emerging—even from former allies. The Proud Boys, a far-right group that once staunchly supported Trump, issued a strong rebuke. Despite the group’s former leader Enrique Tarrio receiving a presidential pardon and recently meeting with Trump, they announced they would pull their support if the U.S. becomes embroiled in a wider Israel-Iran war.
In a Telegram post, the group stated: “America First does not mean war for Israel,” calling on Trump to redirect his focus toward pressing domestic concerns such as the national debt and economic decline.
