Ingredients:
For the Sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small red bell pepper, diced
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 can (14 oz/400g) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp black pepper
Optional: 1/2 cup red wine or beef broth (for depth of flavor)
For the Pasta:
12 oz (340g) spaghetti
Water + salt for boiling
Garnish:
Fresh basil leaves
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the Pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
Drain and set aside.
- Make the Bolognese Sauce:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
Sauté chopped onions until translucent (about 3 minutes).
Add minced garlic and red bell pepper. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
Add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
Pour in crushed tomatoes and (optional) wine or broth. Stir well.
Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Combine & Serve:
Add cooked spaghetti to the sauce, or serve sauce on top of pasta.
Garnish with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese if desired.
✅ Tips:
For a richer flavor, simmer the sauce longer (up to 45 minutes).
Add a pinch of sugar if the tomatoes are too acidic.
Great with garlic bread or a side salad.
