🍥 Classic Cannoli Recipe

For the Shells (or use pre-made):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup white wine (or water, as needed)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Filling:

  • 2 cups whole milk ricotta (drained overnight if watery)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest (optional)
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions:

Shells:

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the butter until crumbly.
  2. Add the egg and wine a bit at a time, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rest 30 minutes.
  3. Roll dough thin, cut into 4-inch circles, wrap around cannoli forms, and seal with egg white.
  4. Fry in hot oil (350°F / 175°C) until golden brown. Drain and cool.

Filling:

  1. Mix ricotta, powdered sugar, vanilla, and orange zest until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips.
  2. Pipe filling into shells just before serving to keep crisp.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
