
🍥 Classic Cannoli Recipe
For the Shells (or use pre-made):
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp cold butter, cubed
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup white wine (or water, as needed)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Filling:
- 2 cups whole milk ricotta (drained overnight if watery)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp orange zest (optional)
- 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions:
Shells:
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the butter until crumbly.
- Add the egg and wine a bit at a time, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rest 30 minutes.
- Roll dough thin, cut into 4-inch circles, wrap around cannoli forms, and seal with egg white.
- Fry in hot oil (350°F / 175°C) until golden brown. Drain and cool.
Filling:
- Mix ricotta, powdered sugar, vanilla, and orange zest until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Pipe filling into shells just before serving to keep crisp.
- Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
