Born in 1939 in Pound Ridge, New York, Ali was raised in humble surroundings. Her parents, both artists, struggled to make ends meet, and her father’s troubled past created an emotionally fraught home. Still, Ali’s creative spark thrived. After graduating from Wellesley College, she entered the fashion world, starting her career at Harper’s Bazaar before transitioning into modeling.
Her big break came with the 1969 film Goodbye, Columbus, followed by her legendary role in Love Story, which earned her international acclaim and an Academy Award nomination. That same year, she married Paramount producer Robert Evans, and the couple welcomed a son, Josh. But it was her on-set romance with Steve McQueen during The Getaway that changed the course of her life.
