Cleveland Toddler Dies After Allegedly Being Left Alone for Over a Week
Cleveland, OH — A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked the Cleveland community this week, after a 16-month-old baby girl, Janiya Thompson, was found dead in her home. Authorities say she was allegedly left alone for more than a week by her mother, who went on vacation.
According to police, Janiya was discovered lifeless in a small apartment on the city’s east side on Monday afternoon. Emergency responders described the scene as “heartbreaking and extremely negligent.”
Mother Allegedly Left to Vacation
The child’s mother, 21-year-old Kristen Jones, is accused of locking the toddler inside the apartment on March 18 before leaving for a nine-day trip to Michigan with her partner. Jones reportedly called 911 upon returning home and finding her daughter unresponsive. But according to paramedics, the child had already been dead for several days, and nothing could be done to revive her.
