📋 Ingredients
For the Cake Layers:
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
- 1¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (filling removed, optional)
For the Oreo Buttercream Frosting:
- 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temp
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 12–15 finely crushed Oreos
For the Chocolate Ganache Drip:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
For Decorating:
- 10–12 whole Oreo cookies
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- Extra buttercream for piping
- Crushed Oreos for the base
🧁 Instructions
1. Bake the Cake Layers:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.
- Mix in the sour cream, then alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Fold in the crushed Oreos gently.
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before assembling.
2. Make the Oreo Buttercream:
- Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar.
- Add vanilla, salt, and cream/milk, adjusting consistency.
- Fold in finely crushed Oreos.
3. Make the Ganache:
- Heat heavy cream until hot (but not boiling). Pour over chocolate chips.
- Let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Cool slightly before using.
4. Assemble the Cake:
- Place one cake layer on your stand. Spread a layer of Oreo buttercream. Repeat for all layers.
- Apply a crumb coat and chill for 20 minutes.
- Frost with a smooth coat of buttercream and chill again.
5. Decorate:
- Drip cooled ganache over the chilled cake edges and top.
- Pipe buttercream swirls around the top edge.
- Add whole Oreos on each swirl.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and Oreo crumbs generously on top and base.
