🇮🇹 Homemade Italian Cannoli 🍰

🛒 Ingredients

For the Cannoli Shells:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup white wine (or enough to form dough)

  • 2 cups whole milk ricotta, well-drained
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios (for garnish)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Cut in the butter using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the egg, mix, then slowly add the white wine until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  • Wrap and let it rest for at least 1 hour at room temperature.

2. Fry the Cannoli Shells:

  • Roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thickness and cut into 4-inch rounds.
  • Wrap each round around a metal cannoli tube, sealing the edge with egg wash (1 beaten egg + splash of water).
  • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry each shell for 2–3 minutes until golden.
  • Drain on paper towels and cool completely before removing from tubes.

3. Make the Filling:

  • In a bowl, mix ricotta, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • Fold in the mini chocolate chips. Chill until ready to use.

4. Assemble the Cannoli:

  • Fill each cooled shell with the ricotta cream using a piping bag.
  • Dip each end in extra chocolate chips or crushed pistachios.
  • Dust with powdered sugar.
