🍽 Nonna Pia’s Italian Sausage and Peppers
📋 Ingredients:
- 1 ½ lbs Italian sausage (sweet, hot, or mixed)
- 3 bell peppers (red, yellow, green), sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes (optional for saucy version)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Optional: fresh basil for garnish

👩🍳 Directions:
1️⃣ Brown the Sausage:
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage links and cook until browned on all sides (about 8–10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
2️⃣ Sauté Veggies:
In the same pan, add another tbsp olive oil. Sauté sliced onions and bell peppers for 5–7 minutes until softened. Add garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
3️⃣ Combine and Simmer:
Slice the browned sausages into chunks. Return them to the pan with the vegetables. If using, pour in the crushed tomatoes. Cover and simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes.
