BREAKING NEWS Alert: Powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake

Massive Earthquake Devastates Myanmar-China Border Region

A powerful earthquake struck at 3:42 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located in a remote mountainous area along the Myanmar–Yunnan Province border in China, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers, making its effects more intense and far-reaching.

The tremors were strongly felt across northern Thailand, especially in the cities of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, prompting mass evacuations and widespread alarm.

Myanmar has been hit the hardest, declaring a state of emergency in multiple regions. Authorities have confirmed at least 48 deaths, over 300 injuries, and dozens still missing. In Lashio, one of the most affected cities, several buildings have collapsed entirely. Rescue teams are racing against time, digging through rubble in search of survivors.

“We heard a loud noise, and suddenly everything started shaking. The walls cracked, the ground moved like waves,” said Myo Thant, a local resident who managed to flee with his family just before their home collapsed.
