Luis Guzmán Named King of the 2025 National Puerto Rican Day Parade
MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — Acclaimed film and television star Luis Guzmán has been officially named King of the 2025 National Puerto Rican Day Parade, joining a distinguished slate of honorees: Olga Tañón as Queen, Gina Rodriguez as Madrina, and Elvis Crespo as Padrino.
“I’m like a kid in a candy store,” Guzmán told Eyewitness News. “I am so blessed, so honored. I am humbled by it all.”
With a career spanning over four decades, the 68-year-old actor has built a rich legacy across film and television. He currently stars as Gomez Addams in Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday, and is well known for standout roles in Shameless, Godfather of Harlem, Traffic, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love.
Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico and raised on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Guzmán credits the late Miguel Piñero—a legendary actor and co-founder of the Nuyorican Poets Café—for helping launch his acting career. That journey began with a co-starring role on the season premiere of Miami Vice just three weeks after Piñero’s encouragement.
Now, with Season 2 of Wednesday set to premiere in August, Guzmán is reflecting on the iconic role he’s taken on.
“To play Gomez Addams—the one I used to watch in black and white as a kid, the one Raul Julia made legendary—I was like wow… just wow,” Guzmán shared.
